The History of Hotel Glacier
The Hotel Glacier is one of Grindelwald's oldest hotels
Back in the days people could see directly from the hotel to the glacier tongue of the lower Glacier of Grindelwald. That's where the hotel got its name from.
At that time the road from Interlaken ended right at the hotel. To go on travellers had to change from coach to horseback. The hotel provided stables for the horses.
The "Hotel du Glacier" was first mentioned in 1873 by the Bernese Economical Control authority. The hotel has been the property of the Kaufmann family since 1945.
